Another side effect of the addition of free aim is that you can only be locked onto targets while standing still, meaning you can no longer throw smoke bombs while walking.Ī second issue with the remaster’s changes is the addition of Low Profile double assassinations. They also seem to have nerfed the amount of damage your arrows do, as well, as some animals that die to one charged shot in the original game simply don’t in the remaster. This is really bad for hunting, because this will cause Connor to pop his head out of a stalking zone before he can even fire the arrow, causing nearby animals to see him and run away, whereas you can aim without standing up out of the bushes in the original game. In AC3 remastered, the second you start aiming your bow, Connor automatically draws the arrow back, and you shoot the bow like a gun.
In a game that treats archery normally (including AC3 original), you find your target, press a button to draw the arrow back, then let go when you want to shoot. Archery feels absolutely disgusting to use, as a result of this feature’s implementation. Getting headshots doesn’t land instakills, because the original AC3 didn’t have this mechanic. There are a number of other gameplay changes that are either completely unnecessary or are straight up downgrades.įor instance, the free aim mechanic, in the way it was added, has no reason to even be in the game. Mechanically, the one actual improvement to the gameplay is the ability to whistle from inside stalking zones, similar to BF/Rogue. I prefer the colour palette of the original game, but others prefer the new textures & lighting.
